Premier Foods shortlisted for LACA Awards for Excellence Supplier of the Year 2019
It was an exciting day at Premier Foods HQ on Wednesday 5th June 2019 as our education team discovered it had been shortlisted for the LACA Supplier of the Year Award.
The LACA Awards for Excellence are held every year at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole during the annual LACA Main Event. This year’s awards will be presented on the evening of Thursday July 11th, 2019.
Why have we been shortlisted?
Premier Foods has always strived to be more than a supplier. Our team puts the customers at the heart of everything we do and we always endeavour to identify challenges which we can help school caterers overcome. We do this by offering practical advice and convenient products. The education team works tirelessly to offer schools support, while celebrating talent across the industry.
How do we work with the education sector?
We always work collaboratively with our customers to improve the standards of school catering and celebrate the immense talent that is present in the industry. For the first time, Premier Foods sponsored the LACA School Chef of the Year competition with our McDougalls brand; investing in an initiative it truly believes in. Our support was welcomed by schools across the country and LACA saw a huge increase in entries, up 44% versus previous years. We are now developing a recipe book which will include all the finalists’ recipes – helping to inspire schools, offer new ideas and profile the hard work of the chefs who took part.
Another initiative that showcases the work we do in education catering is the McDougalls Young Baking Team of the Year competition which is back for its fifth year and is bigger than ever. The competition celebrates the role that school caterers have in inspiring and developing their pupil’s cooking skills and their understanding of where the food on their plates comes from.
At this year’s live baking final Professor Tanya Byron will join the competition judging panel to home in on the fact that this competition is a fantastic way to increase children’s confidence. A chartered clinical psychologist, Tanya has real expertise in this area, and we want to ensure that the McDougalls competition continues to remain relevant and gives children a real boost.
Promoting confidence in young people
For the LACA Main Event 2019 we have partnered with our corporate charity, Mind. Birmingham Mind will be running a workshop for caterers during the show which will help give them the tools to empower pupils in the future and increase their confidence. A second workshop will also take place for the five shortlisted teams prior to the live final of McDougalls Young Baking Team of the Year, giving the children increased confidence and valuable advice.
Look out for the big reveal
Look out for the results of the LACA Awards for Excellence on social media on the evening of the 11th July. These will be live tweeted from @LACA_UK. Our fingers will be firmly crossed.
