Register your interest for the McDougalls Young Baking Team of the Year 2016 competition

Following the success of the McDougalls Young Baking Team of the Competition earlier this year, we are delighted to announce the launch of the 2016 competition. Open for registration now, McDougalls will be on the lookout across the nation for an enthusiastic team of young, innovative bakers to crown its new champions in a live grand finale taking place at LACA – The Main Event on Thursday 7th July 2016.

Teams are encouraged to register their interest now below or by texting ‘MCDOUGALLS’ followed by their email address to 82727 by 18th April. By registering, teams will receive a McDougalls toolkit which will include product samples, an application form and recipe inspiration to get them started. As an incentive to register the first 20 schools to register by midnight on 31st December 2015 will receive an additional baking kit with equipment to help the team start practicing.

To make it to the live final in July, chefs and caterers must put together a team of up to three seven to 11 year olds and lead them to victory with one sweet and one savoury recipe which meets a ‘provenance’ theme, and submit them by Monday 30th May 2016. The recipes must include a product from the McDougalls foodservice range along with at least one ingredient which has been locally sourced[1]. This could be anything from fruit and vegetables grown in the school grounds or local produce from a nearby farm. The recipes will be judged by an expert panel including representatives from LACA, the Craft Guild of Chefs and Premier Foods.

Debbie Donnor, the School Caterer from last year’s winning school Nene Valley Primary School, comments: “It was an absolutely brilliant experience for the children and really inspiring to see them so excited and working collaboratively. The school is thrilled that they won the competition and the children are extremely proud that they have won an array of great kitchen equipment for the school so more children can get involved in cooking in the future.”

“After being blown away by the dedication and enthusiasm from all competing schools in the 2015 competition, we are extremely excited to be launching the competition again for 2016,” comments, Sarah Robb, Channel Marketing Manager at Premier Foods.  “We are passionate about helping to improve children’s cooking skills as well as their team work in a fun and creative environment. With this year’s theme being provenance, we hope it will educate children about local sourcing and help improve their understanding of where food comes.”

The winning team will be rewarded with top prizes for their school worth £1,000, and the shortlisted recipes will be made available to download from our website in a recipe booklet.

If you are looking for a challenge that demonstrates dedication and team work whilst teaching the children new skills, then register your interest now below or text ‘MCDOUGALLS’ followed by your email address to 82727 by Monday 18th April 2016.
